About the Role
This is an outstanding opportunity for an ambitious accounting professional to step into a management role while continuing their professional development journey. Based in Totnes and reporting directly to a Partner, you'll take ownership of client relationships, manage cases from inception to completion, and play a key role in supporting and developing junior team members. The position offers excellent exposure to all aspects of practice operations while building the foundation for future senior roles within the firm.
Junior Accounts Manager Responsibilities
- Take full responsibility for assigned client cases and handle client communications with confidence and professionalism
- Prepare comprehensive client files ready for Partner review, ensuring accuracy and completeness
- Provide expert advice and support to clients, addressing queries relating to their accounts and financial matters
- Manage cases from initial instruction through to successful completion, maintaining high standards throughout
- Maintain accurate client books and records on a regular basis, ensuring compliance with all relevant standards
- Prepare and submit VAT returns within statutory deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail
- Build and nurture strong relationships with both new and existing clients, becoming their trusted point of contact
- Supervise and mentor junior colleagues, providing guidance and support with their day-to-day work
- Assist trainees with their learning and development, contributing to their professional growth
- Prepare and complete corporation tax and personal tax returns for clients across various sectors
- Handle preparation of accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies with precision
- Liaise with HMRC on behalf of clients when required, managing correspondence and queries effectively
- Complete accurate and timely timesheets each week, supporting effective practice management
Junior Accounts Manager Requirements
- AAT qualification or equivalent, actively studying towards ACCA or ACA qualification
- Working knowledge of accounting software including Sage, QuickBooks, or Xero
- Experience with accounts production software such as CCH would be advantageous but not essential
- Strong initiative and ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Proven ability to build and maintain excellent client relationships at various organisational levels
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills with confidence in client-facing situations
- Exceptional organisational abilities with demonstrated capability to manage complex workloads effectively
- Commitment to exceeding client expectations while maintaining accuracy and professional standards
- Natural leadership qualities with enthusiasm for mentoring and developing junior colleagues
