About the Role
This is a fantastic opportunity for a qualified accountant to take ownership of a varied client portfolio while working directly with Partners in a well-established practice. Based in Totnes, you'll be responsible for delivering comprehensive compliance services, building lasting client relationships, and contributing to business growth initiatives. The role offers excellent scope for professional development, client interaction, and the opportunity to become a trusted advisor to businesses across different sectors and structures.
Accounts Manager Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and review accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies
- Deliver comprehensive tax advice across income tax, corporation tax, and capital gains tax matters
- Prepare and present final accounts to clients, ensuring clear communication of financial positions
- Conduct forecasting work and provide strategic financial guidance to support client decision-making
- Manage assigned client portfolio including responsibility for billing and relationship maintenance
- Prepare detailed management accounts and financial statements in accordance with relevant standards
- Support Partners in client meeting preparation and attend meetings as required
- Oversee work in progress control systems and ensure timely and accurate client invoicing
- Prepare and submit VAT returns and Corporation Tax returns within statutory deadlines
- Identify opportunities for advisory services including cloud accounting implementation, Making Tax Digital compliance, and tax planning strategies
- Handle day-to-day client correspondence and email communications with professionalism
- Actively participate in business development activities and contribute to practice growth
- Provide coaching and mentorship to junior team members, supporting their professional development
Accounts Manager Requirements
- ACA or ACCA qualification with minimum 1 year recent post-qualification experience, or Qualified by Experience
- Substantial accounts preparation experience gained within a fast-paced accountancy practice environment
- Advanced computer skills including proficiency in spreadsheet applications
- Working knowledge of accounting software including Sage, QuickBooks, or Xero
- Experience with accounts production software such as CCH or similar systems
- Strong initiative and ability to work effectively both independently and within a collaborative team
- Proven ability to build and maintain excellent client relationships across various business levels
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills with confidence in client-facing situations
- Exceptional organisational abilities with proven track record of managing complex workloads
- Commitment to exceeding client expectations while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail
